Creating a piece of video for University of Liverpool Online, the challenge lay – at least in part – in finding an animation style that subtly communicated key messaging while also fitting in with the wider brand guidelines for the University.
Deciding that a simple, clean, minimalist approach would serve these needs best, care then had to be taken to find a balance between a style that could run the risk of feeling simplistic or childlike and an approach that fully embodied a feeling of intellectual rigour and serious academic credentials. Great care was taken to achieve this balance between playful and grounded, taking several aesthetic cues from contemporary current affairs illustrations in places like The Guardian, The Economist and several broadsheet supplements. Care was also taken to mirror these visual cues with a script and vocal delivery that would hit the same informative, playful and engaging tone.
