Client: University of Liverpool

Director: Phil Halpin

The Materials Innovation Factory is a brand new £36m facility which is co-owned by the University of Liverpool and Unilever. The centre uses computer aided materails science and a new collaborative model for industry and academia to engage with each other. They wanted to help them distill their narrative, and use this language to script a series of animated explainer videos that get people excited about MIF.

Working with a writer, we conducted a number of insight interviews to distill the big picture to a simple, engaging narrative.

We created a distinctive art style for the piece which allowed us to tell the story in an abstract way. The University already had a 3D flythrough animation of the new MIF facility, so we wanted this film to tell a story about the less tangible aspects of MIF.

The videos will be used online and to support events and visits once MIF opens its doors this year.
